A new park site had to be found in 1954, with the building of Highway 17 causing the loss of Memorial Park. A parcel of land at the corner of University Avenue and Williams Street (now Blossom Hill Road) owned by Louisa and Pietro Denevi was purchased in May 1957. The site was previously used as a sewage farm in the area.

Built in stages, the park was opened in 1958. The park has been very famous since then. Added features of a vintage aircraft, a fire engine, a railroad, a carousel and a cupola, situated in a lovely creek-side location. Everyone loves Oak Meadow.

Nine areas are only available for use on reservation. Every area has a capacity for fifty people and a large barbecue pit and tables. Visit the online reservation system to learn more about license fees for use in the park. Picnic tables with small barbecues are spread around the park. These areas are first served and restricted to small family groups (25 people or less).

The gem of the Los Gatos parks, Oak Meadow Park is centrally located. A large 12 acre park featuring:

  • Access to Vasona county Park and the Los Gatos Creek Trail
  • BBQ and picnic facilities
  • Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad
  • Bocce ball courts
  • Large grass field
  • Large playground area with a real, decommissioned USAF T-33 Jet
  • W.E. Bill Mason Carousel

Not too many parks in the Bay show either a mini train (Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad) or a carousel (The W.E. “Bill” Mason Carousel)! Brace yourself, guys, this park is showing BOTH! Tickets are $2 per person per car, and kids are 2 years old or younger free of charge.

When you pull into the parking lot, there’s normally a $6 charge to pay, but there’s not always an attendant out there to collect. Not sure what the official ruling is, but it is usually applied on the weekends.

The park itself is very spacious and has a very wide open grass field where you can play soccer, volleyball or anything else you want. The lawn is well tended, and generally the park is well maintained. The play area is fully fitted with your regular play structures, but it also has a plane and a fire truck that children can’t get enough of!

This is a wonderful place for children to play. There are still families gathering there. Some of them have picnics, barbecues, or ball games. It’s not just a playground for children, it’s also an open grass field. Dogs are allowed to be on a leash in the park. It’s such a pleasure to see everyone have a wonderful time. Ducks are also going to be there. This park is also known for its merry-go-round and train ride.
